2 October 2017

The first Fly The Flag Tour was in 2002 and was the brainchild of the late Keith Anderson from Bairnsdale, a life member of the RACV who proposed a tour to emulate the Herald Sun Tours of the 1950s. After discussions with his friend Frank Douglas, president of the fledgling All British Classics Car Club, they approached Aris Imbadelli, manager of RACV Club. Aris approved sponsorship of the event as a lead up to the RACV centenary year in 2004, and the ABCCC commenced organising and running the first of the next 16 years of the Tour sponsored by the RACV.

This event has always been owned and organised by the All British Classics Car Club Vic Inc and is protected by copyright, trademark and business name.

Over this period, the Fly The Flag Tour has become a major event on the historic motoring calendar, and the ABCCC intends to keep it this way.

The only differences you will see on this tour are the absence of the two patrolmen, which is sad, and the absence of the RACV Foundation. To this end we have organised an experienced patrolman to be 'tail-end Charlie' who will assist any casualties along the way. We also strongly recommend all entrants have RACV Total Care, and we will advise you of the RACV agents and depots along the route.

As for the Foundation, we were their second largest source of funds from events, and I think we will be missed, but we will continue to support local communities as we have done in the past.

In conclusion, I would like to thank the hundreds of people who responded to the email informing you of the future of the Fly The Flag Tour. In appreciation of your strong support and words of encouragement, we have named this event the "Friendship Tour".
